Kaveh Afagh (born Seyed Kaveh Afaghi, 1 May 1983, Tehran, Iran) is a composer, songwriter, guitarist and singer, who grew up in an artistic family. His father, Mehdi Afagh, is a writer and theatre director and his mother, Hamideh Titkanlou, is a PH.D in urban designing and planning. So, cause of artistic atmosphere in family, he was acquainted with different kinds of artistic principles and theories since childhood. At the age of six, Kaveh began to learn primary principles of music and to play the classic guitar by his father. But after two years, he loathed guitar because he believed that classic guitar was not a good instrument for that age. From 1992 to 1999, for some problems, Kaveh Afagh experienced living in several cities of North of Iran, getting familiar with many traditions of Turkoman songs (folklore) and his parents’ encouragements, the passion of music aroused in him once again and his musical goals began during his teenage years. . When he was fifteen, his first electric guitar was a present from his parents, then started playing jazz and blues and under the influence of Pink Floyd and Queen Bands, Kaveh got interested in rock music. At the age of 17, he began to write songs and compose music for himself. A year later, Kaveh graduated from Alborz School (the most Iranian well-known high school) in Mathematics and began to study architecture in university. During this time, he formed his first band and called it “The Part”. They had just one concert and a few months later, they dissolved due to financial problems. Afterwards, he joined a large orchestra “Asemaneh” as lead guitarist. Kaveh left them, as he couldn’t be the singer and group didn’t accept his songs and then by the invitation of Alireza Pourreza, joined to his band “The Kavian”. At 21, he experienced his first studio record in “Kavian”. Kaveh Afagh has collaborated with them for 2 years and 25 live performances , 10 concerts and releasing one studio album in Persian “Zaraban e Namonazzam” that means “Unsystematic Beating” were the results. Meanwhile, under the effect of old Persian poets, he started to write English lyrics. He says that he owes his technique of composing to architecture. Compounding of these techniques led him to create a new style of oriental rock. In 2003, Kaveh Afagh and Alireza Pourreza formed a band and by Kaveh?s suggestion, they called it "The Ways". He has taken up various roles as a singer, song writer and composer of the band and most of band works have been produced by his talent. Three studio albums "Otagh e Abi" in Persian which means "The Blue Room", "The Ways" and "Blasphemy Palace" in English, several live concerts in different cities of Iran, composing for various short movies and attending in some music festivals are the results of Kaveh Afagh?s partnership in The Ways Oriental Rock Band up today.Recently, he graduated with a B.A. degree in architecture and freely develops his musical life. |
